La Pizza de Alejo: Thin Crust Pizzas with Creative Toppings

I’ve lived in the same apartment in Medellín for the past six years but it wasn’t until December 2014 when I decided to go out for lunch on a Saturday afternoon that I found La Pizza de Alejo.

The restaurant has been on the same corner since 2003, and I walked past it daily but precisely because of that it just became part of the scenery.

It had never called my attention to go and eat there although it had a good atmosphere. Had it not been because I didn’t want to cook on a lazy weekend I probably would have walked past this pizzeria for another six years.

That being said, I highly regret not trying this pizza before. If you like thin crust pizza and creative toppings you should try La Pizza de Alejo.

The first time I ate there I went for lunch with my family. We got a HUGE 45 cm pizza with 12 slices for three people; we had a lot of leftovers.

They offer four sizes, personal, one slice (16 cms) mediana, six slices (30 cms), ejecutiva, eight slices (35 cms) and familiar, 12 slices (45 cms). The ingredients are fresh, and the combinations of toppings are very creative.

One of my favorite flavors is the green apple with blue cheese that I decided to try after reading Leah’s article about Pizzería Antica Italia.

Every time I go I don’t even have to look at the menu before the cook knows to start preparing a slice.

If you aren’t a meat lover, I recommend trying the vegetarian pizza covered in different vegetables. They are very generous with the toppings and you can tell the veggies are fresh.

Another great pizza is the Paisa covered in chicharron and avocado, sweet corn and cabano.

They have a huge menu of all the flavors they offer and there is a pizza for everybody. If you aren’t a pizza person they have lasagna, salads, pastas and desserts.

You’ll also have a choice of beers, both local (Bogota Beer Company) and imported (Corona, Heineken, Miller, etc.), or fresh fruit juices for non-alcohol drinkers.

The restaurant is out in the open under trees where you can sit and enjoy Medellín’s perfect weather. If you don’t want to sit outside they have four tables under a roof.

La Pizza de Alejo has two locations, Laureles (Circular 75 #39-07) and Via Provenza (Calle 8 #34-33) in El Poblado.

The restaurant in El Poblado opened in 2014 and has a beautiful exterior with Christmas lights and vines on the balcony that create a romantic vibe.

The menu has so many different and creative combinations, this restaurant has become my go-to place for pizza. I can spoil myself with delicious flavors and never order mediocre pizza again.

    Good that they have tables indoors as there is a very good chance that it will be raining when you go.
