La Casa Redonda: Co-working in Laureles

Co-working in Medellín is on the rise. Millenials, for the most part, are feeling this vibe of sharing what they’re doing, and finding in each other what they need to fulfill their goals.

Of course, they’re not the only generation. Lots of people of all ages (writers, designers, journalists galore) are finding that co-working spaces are the new offices.

So, spaces to co-work are popping up all over the city. Among them, Epicentro, Atom House, OndasCo-work and Workamp.

La Casa Redonda is one of the newer ones in the city and one of the two I know of in Laureles.

About La Casa Redonda

La Casa Redonda is located at Circular 72 #39A-32, which is super close to UPB in Laureles (see map below this post).

So, unfortunately, it’s not an actual round house. However, La Casa Redonda is a huge space with lots of mini-spaces to work, hang out, go to a workshop, do some yoga, take out your toolbox, dish out some graffiti, etc.

It is a three-story house with lots of little nooks for offices and working, and patios, a DJ stand, books, and the last floor is a hardwood floor large space that is used for meetings, yoga, dance, etc.

The place is so big that I could write a whole post just describing all the pieces that make it great, but I’m here to give you an overview.

The Layout

I love that the house doesn’t feel like you’re cooped up in an office. The patios in the house, the plants scattered throughout, and sunlight that seeps into the workspaces make the place feel more comfortable.

The first level of the house has a conference room, three private offices: one in which I work, one in which we recently had visiting co-workers doing marketing and e-commerce strategies, a therapist, Fashion designers, a few bikes for the co-workers to use, a kitchen, an indoor patio, a living room, coworking desks and an indoor/outdoor workshop (for painting, woodwork, etc.).

The second floor has a few more private office spaces, several overlooking the patio with a mural, and finally, the third floor is the hardwood floor, studio space where they have Yoga a couple of times a month and has recently been adapted for their upcoming month-long event.

Whether you want an office or a desk, hammock, a couch, a corner in the house, what have you, you can contact La Casa Redonda via Facebook or email at lacasaredonda.tc@gmail.com.

Upcoming events at La Casa Redonda

Yoga, potlucks, BBQ’s and other activities are common at the house for all coworkers. This is the most community-focused co-working space I’ve seen.

In April, coworkers and non-coworkers are welcome to take part in their month-long La Maison Bleue event, “a month of total consumption of experiences inspired by the non-material art and life of Yves Klein.”

Activities include:

  • Yoga Classes every day
  • Artistic performances
  • Creative cooking workshops
  • Scuba diving and Profound Ecology courses
  • Movies, Concerts, Talks
  • Sound Meditation

My Experience Co-working

I do a variety of work online at the Casa and share an office with someone I work with. We can work 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., though there are often people working late at the office, with notice you can stay longer or come earlier.

Most workers are there all day, every day (but Sunday). The place has proven to be safe, comfortable, and feels like a community. People know me by name, they poke fun at me for “never working,” they tell me about their projects.

I look forward to continuing to work at La Casa Redonda as long as possible and encourage people to, if not co-work, definitely attend events.
