There is something awesome that comes along with the high beauty standards here in Medellin…cheap salons! There are hair/nail salons on every other block. I’ve found that a good nail salon charges about 6,000 COP for either a manicure or pedicure. Amazing hair cuts here are under 15,000 COP, and a full color, cut, and style will run about 90,000 COP. I took advantage of the low prices and got some pretty crazy hair done. Got to love the work. Plus, many of the salons are full of wonderful people. The one I go to exclusively hires gay male hair dressers, which I think is fantastic!

Muy caliente Holly!
I use to go to a great woman a block from my apartment in Envigado, and if I recall correctly, she only charged me 5,000 COP, which at the time was $2. Of course I don’t have much hair, but it was more about the weekly interaction and experience.
I got a cheap pedicure one time as well (ok maybe two times). The woman even helped introduce me to a beautiful Colombian neighbor I might not have had the cajones to talk to on my own. 🙂
I’ve always wanted to visit Colombia. My best friend goes down every year since his wife is originally from Colombia. And I like the hair!
Great News! Im movong to Medellin at the end of the month and its great to know things like this.
Dave, I only know the prices for woman’s cuts for sure. haha. I do know that the guy’s are a lot cheaper than 15,000 COP. I can’t believe you got a haircut every week. I’ve only had three since I’ve been here.
I like your style, the fact that your site is a little bit different makes it so interesting, I get fed up of seeing same-old-same-old all of the time. I’ve just stumbled this page for you 😀
Whats it like for a hair dresser from the US I am in Florida and want so bad to live there but must have employment
Hi Holly, what’s the name/address of the place you have done your hair? I need a top up on my colour and I desperately need a haircut 🙂 Do they speak English at all?
Hi. I’m in the same boat. Where did you end up going? Thanks, Letitia
