The Medellin Living November meetup event will take place on Thursday, November 9, at 7pm at Barrio Central Cafe Bar in Laureles.
Whether you’ve just arrived in Medellin or have been here for years, you’re welcome to come to the Medellin Living meetups. It’s a great opportunity to get advice, swap travel stories, and meet like-minded people who share an interest in the city of eternal spring.
This month we return to Laureles to check out Barrio Central, a popular neighborhood bar just off the 70. Barrio Central features a nice open-air patio and a lounge area for mixing and mingling.
They recently expanded their food menu, which now includes six types of pizza and five sandwiches.
Our Medellin Living November meetup isn’t a sponsored event, so attendees must pay for their own food and drinks.

Barrio Central is located in Laureles at Circular 2 #68 – 123, just off Carrera 70, near the UPB university. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Estadio metro station.

About Barrio Central Cafe Bar
Barrio Central Cafe Bar opened about a year and a half ago. It has become a popular Laureles neighborhood bar. They recently completed an expansion, enlarging the kitchen and adding another lounge area in the back.
Barrio Central offers a wide variety of drink options. They have a good choice of beers, including Corona, Aguila, Apostol, and 3 Cordilleras. Their cocktail selection includes a few special Barrio Central cocktails as well as popular ones such as the Strawberry Daiquiri and Tequila Sunrise. In addition, they offer a few popular non-alcoholic cocktails, such as the This Isn’t Mojito.
Barrio Central also serves a good variety of wines, including a few reds, whites, and rosés. The menu includes three different kinds of sangria as well.
The Barrio Central bar is also well stocked with a number of rums, whiskeys, and gins, in addition to popular standbys such as Aguardiente Antioqueño, Jagermeister, and Jose Cuervo Tequila. They also have a few special fruit-flavored sodas (such as citrus fruits), several natural fruit juices, lemonade, and soft drinks like Coke and 7 up. Coffee lovers will be happy to find a complete coffee menu, ranging from espresso and cappuccino to macchiato and special coffees with liquor.
In addition, Barrio Central has a good selection of food options on their menu. This includes six homemade pizzas, such as Hawaiian and chicken pesto, and five sandwiches, like the BLT and Pulled Pork (pictured above).
Good news for vegetarians: half of the pizzas are veggie only and the sandwich selection includes a “green” option. The menu also includes three salads.
If you show up with a smaller appetite, Barrio Central has you covered. They offer a number of snacks which are great for sharing, such as nachos, empanadas (with homemade sauces), guacamole, and hummus.
Our Medellin Living Meetups
In response to popular demand, Medellin Living restarted its meetups in January of 2017 after a two-year hiatus. The new Medellin Living meetups have been a huge success, growing steadily from one month to the next. We’ve been averaging about 100 attendees at the last few meetups.
We are currently alternating the meetups between Poblado and Laureles. The events usually take place on the second Thursday of each month.
Our December meetup is planned for Poblado. Details will be posted on this site about one week before each meetup.
Note: there isn’t any extra fee required to attend Medellin Living meetups, and no membership is required.
