Saturday Night Dance Party (and La Rebelion – Joe Arroyo)

Tomorrow night, Saturday, March 16, 2013, you can dance the night away to a mix of salsa, tango, merengue, bachata, porro, pasodoble, and more at A Puro Tango, located on the 2nd floor at San Juan and La 65, in front of the Homecenter.

The event will be similar to the salsa night I wrote about a few weeks ago, only this time it’s with a greater mix of music, and a lesser focus on salsa casino. To inspire you, there will also be two professional performances, in both salsa and tango.

Money raised from the night will help fund the teachers at my dance studio, who will be traveling to Venezuela for a competition in a few months.

The cover charge is 15,000 pesos ($8), and the door open at 8 pm. If you go, be sure to say “hi” between dances.

Joe Arroyo is a Colombian salsa singer who helped fuel the salsa explosion in the 1970’s.

I’ve heard this song, about an African slave couple rebelling against their Spanish masters in Cartagena, dozens of times.

It’s one of my favorite to dance to as well, but I didn’t even known the name of it until a week ago when I used the Soundtracking app to identify it in Guatape.

Sadly, Joe Arroyo passed away in 2011.

PS – unlike regular discotecas, people will arrive early to Saturday night’s event, so don’t be afraid to show up at 9 pm, because there will already be people there!
