Eating out in Colombia can be a difficult affair if you’re use to eating healthy in your home country. Vegetables are rare, and salad options are limited.
Enter Mundo Verde Salud Gourmet, a restaurant dedicated to offering healthy salads, wraps, sandwiches, and drinks.
My first visit was way back in 2009, when I stopped in for a slice of chocolate cake and coffee one afternoon. Ok, so maybe eating healthy wasn’t the focus of my first visit.
Fast forward five years, and I’m meeting Jasmine and her boyfriend Dwayne for lunch. We’re there around Noon, and the place fills to capacity within 30 minutes of our arrival.
The menu features 14 salad options, from a classic Cesar to Mexican, BBQ, avocado, and Thai.
Fans of wraps will also be pleased to see 15 options, including trout, roast beef, tofu, Portobello mushroom, feta, and teriyaki.
An equal number of sandwiches are on offer, allowing you to order your favorite ingredients in whichever format you prefer.
A variety of meats and 11 cheeses are also available if you prefer to share a plate with friends.
I ordered a strawberry and mango shake for 5,500 pesos ($3), and the avocado wrap with chicken, caramelized onion, lettuce, and the house salsa for 15,500 pesos ($8).
The wrap arrived with the house sauce on the side, which is always my preference, and potato chips.
The wrap was delicious. From the color and taste, I could tell the avocado and lettuce were fresh. For the price, I would’ve liked to see a larger portion size.
As I said at the start, health-conscious diners and vegetarians are starved for good places to eat in Medellin.
Mundo Verde helps fill that void, and they do it just a few blocks from Parque Lleras.
Have you eaten at Mundo Verde? What’s your favorite dish?
This is awesome, I was looking for a place like this in Medellin!! Thanks
