The weather in Medellin is near-perfect year round, and thus the city has been nicknamed City of Eternal Spring.

Medellin is located about 5,000 feet above sea level and its elevation gives it a slightly cooler climate than other locations with the same latitude.

Its proximity to the Equator, however, causes only nominal changes in the temperature, keeping the weather in Medellin somewhere between a comfortable 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

With it’s average temperature a balmy 72 degrees, Medellin’s pleasant Spring-like climate has earned it its well-deserved moniker.

Instead of four seasons, Medellin has two rainy seasons that normally fall between September-December and March-May.

Normally is a keyword here, as mother nature (global warning, El Niño, or what-have-you) is fickle these days and locals will tell you that in 2010 and 2011,  the rainy seasons haven’t really been confined to the typical rainy months. [See Wikipedia for average monthly rainfall totals.]

It’s wise to bring along a small retractable umbrella for those Spring-like showers.

In addition to that umbrella, pack a pair of shades and use sunscreen as the sun is just as likely to shine as the rain is to fall, and that tropical sun is strong.

Typical daytime weather in Medellin allows for shorts, a skirt and a tank top or T-shirt, although you should be alright if you opt for long pants instead. [Read more about women’s fashion in Medellin.]

When the night comes, temperatures cool considerably and jeans are more suitable attire, along with a sweater or light jacket. In short — the weather in Medellin is pretty perfect.

You will rarely sweat from too much sun or shiver from the cold; just enjoy pleasantly warm days and comfortably cool nights.

Never too hot, rarely too cold, Medellin truly embodies the weather perfection of Springtime.

Air conditioners and heaters don’t exist in the City of Eternal Spring.

They’re simply not needed.
