Wisin y Yandel Tour Hits Medellin May 20, 2011

Concert venue

This Friday, the 2011 Wisin y Yandel tour hits Medellin, Colombia. The reggaeton superstars are expected to be well received in paisa-country, as their music always gets a good reaction in the discotecas.

A few of their big hits include Sexy Movimiento, Mayor Que Yo, Rakata, Me Estas Tentando.

The Wisin y Yandel tour features a host of supporting acts, including Tego Calderon, De La Ghetto, Franco El Gorila, Wolfine, and Alberto Style. Ok, so I’ve only heard of Tego Calderon, but the other guys might be cool too.

Given the Daddy Yankee concert I was going to attend in 2010 got cancelled, I won’t be missing Wisin y Yandel passing through town.

The concert venue is actually in Envigado, it’s under a tent to ensure rainy weather doesn’t interfere with the show.  From experience, that also means it’s going to be steamy as hell once all the people get in there and start dancing.

There are a variety of prices depending on how close you want to be to the stage.

General admission tickets are 55,000 COP each ($31). There are two mid-level ticket prices, and then VIP seats run 125,000 COP each ($71).  Lastly, there is a section so close you’ll feel the sweat dripping off the guys as they run around on stage.  Those tickets are a cool 205,000 COP each ($116).

Tickets are on sale at McDonald’s restaurants located in Envigado, and malls around Medellin, including Oviedo and San Diego.

Doors open around 5 PM, and the show kicks off about 8 PM.  Given the number of opening acts, I’m inclined to believe the ticket agent when he told me the show will wrap-up at 1 or 2 AM.

Food and drinks (including beer and liquor) will be for sale at the venue, and there will be Port-a-Potties too.

Local Tip: Leave your valuables at home if you head to this show.  It’s going to be crowded, and there’s high potential for pickpockets.  Normally I’d take my camera and Blackberry to a big concert, but I’ll be leaving both at home.

For additional info, you can check out the concert’s official Facebook event page (Spanish).
