Wednesday Nights at B-Lounge

My first attempt at getting into B-Lounge, a popular club just outside Parque Lleras, was a failure.

Me and two guy friends wanted to check out the scene on a Wednesday night last year, but we were denied.  The bouncer said it had to do with there being too many guys, if I recall correctly.

Seeing as how it is known as the best place to go out on a Wednesday night, we didn’t have an alternative.  Parque Lleras is great for getting dinner and a drink, but there’s not a lot of action until Thursday nights.

Even though I held a grudge for more than a year, when my friend Jason messaged me to suggest we hit it in advance of Halloween weekend, I decided to try again.

This time around, we were only two guys, and we got to there early enough that getting in wasn’t an issue.

At 20,000 pesos ($11), the cover was hefty by Colombian standards.

However seeing as how B Lounge has a stranglehold on Wednesday nights, and a reputation for attracting beautiful women, they can get away with it and still pack the club.

The outside was unassuming, and the inside was fairly small.  There was one bar, and no dance floor.

The beers were moderately priced, somewhere between 5,000 to 10,000 pesos ($3-5).  The music was crossover, and at one point there was a video karaoke competition with some very skilled singers.

During my night out, as the place picked up, I suddenly had an urgent need to use the bathroom.  I was annoyed to discover that this upscale venue featured just 3 urinals in the men’s room.

In Colombia, this is not unusual, and it is as if only women have a need for regular toilets.

The woman outside the bathrooms suggested I could use the women’s room, but seeing as how small it was, and would be filled with girls touching-up their make-up, I decided to exit the club and find a restaurant down Calle 10.

Back at the club, Jason and I hung out, and I made a tour around the space to capture a few of the costumes.

As I would soon find out, this was an appetizer to the effort of epic proportions that Colombians take when it comes to dressing up for Halloween, and hitting the clubs.

Overall, B-Lounge is a good place to mix and mingle as there aren’t a lot of tables as is so common in Colombian clubs.

It’s also small enough that you can work your way around the room if you’re in the mood to be social.  They’ve been known to host a few pole-dancing shows as well.

It’s expensive, but B-Lounge is your best bet if you want to go out and see some beautiful people on a Wednesday night in Medellin.
