Sinko Bar: Happy Hour with a View

Leather sofas in El Sinko bar and restaurant

Sinko Bar is the kind of place I’d choose to go for happy hour with coworkers, back when I was living back in Arlington, Virginia.

Located on the 3rd floor of the Rio Sur mall, it faces Avenida Poblado, and offers a mix of both indoor and outdoor seating.

Earlier this year, I met up with my friend Ryan and another person for dinner.

We arrived in the early evening to find the outdoor section was full, and RSVP signs protecting the tables that weren’t.

Appetizers: meatballs and cheese bread

We took a seat near the deck, and ordered some meatballs and cheese bread to kick things off.

While cocktail prices can get quite high (16,500 pesos, or $8.80 for a margarita), the food prices weren’t that bad considering the quality.

The menu offers a wide variety of foods, from nachos, tacos, and pork belly appetizers, to pizzas, steaks, and seafood.

The chicken curry tasted fine, but should’ve been presented with a side of rice
Giant salmon filet with microgreens and salad

I opted for the salmon with avocado sauce (26,800 pesos or $14), and was presented with an absolutely massive piece of fish.

Not that I’m complaining, but it was a very generous portion.

Again, I thought it deserved to have a side dish, such as potatoes, accompany it.

I could’ve done without the lettuce, and grilled onions.

Full house for dinner

Dinner for three clocked in at 90,467 pesos, or $48, including tip.

That’s about $16 per person, and well worth it.

In the time it took us to order and eat dinner, the entire dining room had filled with people, proving Sinko Bar is more than just a happy hour spot, it’s a great place to grab food too.
