We have planned our Medellín Living February Meetup event on February 23 at 7pm at the Mexican restaurant Tepito Tacos y Tequila in Envigado.

Maybe you just arrived in Medellín. Or maybe you’ve been living here for years.  Come and meet other expats living in the city or visiting Medellín. Regardless of your time in the city, I want to invite you to the Medellín Living February Meetup for 2017.

Our first meetup in January was a huge success with nearly 60 people packing Bogotá Beer Company in El Poblado

Our February Meetup is a chance to experience one of the best Mexican restaurants in Medellín. Join us for some good tacos and other Mexican food as well as drinks.

Even if you’re on a super tight budget, come for the conversation.  And if you can’t make it this time, no worries. We intend to organize a Medellín Living meetup each month.

Note this isn’t a sponsored event so attendees will be expected to pay their own way for drinks and food.  The above photo is courtesy of Tepito Tacos y Tequila.

Date: 7:00pm, Thursday, February 23, 2017

Address: Calle 30 Sur # 43A-29, Envigado – this is located in barrio Jardines on a street known as Calle La buena mesa de Envigado.

More About Tepito Tacos y Tequila

Tepito Tacos y Tequila is a Mexican restaurant that opened in barrio Jardines in Envigado in 2012.

Jardines in Envigado has a popular restaurant zone consisting of a few tree lined streets where you can find a range of cuisines, including steaks, pizzas, Peruvian, Mexican, Italian, Colombian and gourmet hamburgers.

When walking into Tepito Tacos y Tequila the first thing you notice is the interior decor. The design is distinctly Mexican, and not in the stereotypical way that is so common.

The tables along the right side of the restaurant are up a few steps, and roped off to mimic the experience of stepping into a Mexican wrestling ring.

Tepito has some great tacos in my experience. My favorites are the Cerdo al Pastor (pork) and Pollo al Pastor (chicken). They have several other types of tacos including steak with onions, breaded shrimp and breaded fish.

Tacos cost 6,000 pesos ($2.10) each.  They are topped with white onions and cilantro. Additional toppings on the side like pico de gallo are included and cheese can also be added.

Tepito offers four varieties of salsa, from mild, to medium, strong, and XXX. The second spiciest salsa, labeled “fuerte” is hot enough for me.

In addition to the tacos, the menu at Tepito includes several appetizers as well as other Mexican entrees such as burritos, quesadillas and fajitas. They also have several varieties of nachos.

The menu is rounded out with some larger meals with steak, chicken, fish or shrimp as a base. They also have a few soups, salads and desserts.

Tepito also has a bar with good margaritas, Mexican beers such as Corona and Modelo plus other beers, tequila and other liquors, several cocktails, wines, juices and other drinks.

Comments From Our First Medellín Living Meetup

I received comments from several expats at our first 2017 meetup at Bogotá Beer Company in El Poblado. And we received additional comments after the event. Here are some of the comments:

  • “This was a great event to enable meeting other expats, thanks for organizing this.”
  • “Very happy to meet other expats living in the city.”
  • “We met two expat couples who we have become regular social chums with since the meetup. The meetups are a great idea!”
  • “Would be good to have some events outside of El Poblado.”
  • “Would like to see a restaurant location for the next event.”

We listened to all the comments.  And we believe the Tepito Tacos y Tequila restaurant location in Envigado will be a better venue than Bogotá Beer Company.

We plan to rotate our meetups each month between El Pobaldo, Envigado, Sabaneta and Laureles, which are the four most popular neighborhoods for expats living in Medellín. We are doing this so expats can experience different parts of the city.

Please Join Us For the Medellín Living February Meetup

Readers in our Medellín Living survey late last year asked us to re-start the Medellín Living Meetup events.  And we have responded.

Over 25 Medellín Living Meetup events were held in the past from early 2013 to early 2015. They tended to have 15 to 30 attendees each.

Our first meetup in 2017 had nearly 60 attendees.  So we expect our meetups in 2017 to be much bigger events than in the past.

This is a very good way to meet other expats living in the city as well as newcomers visiting or considering moving to the city. You’ll also get to meet one of the Medellín Living writers – Jeff.  Invite your friends!

If you plan to attend please RSVP so we know how many tables to reserve!  If you are not on Facebook you can RSVP using the comments below.

I suspect we will need to reserve the entire Tepito restaurant based on the big turnout at our Medellín Living Meetup last month at Bogotá Beer Company

  1. Sounds awesome. We will be staying in Envigado for just over 2 months, arriving at the end of April. Hope to join one of your meet-ups at that time.

  2. How funny I should notice this post on the day of the meetup. I live across the street from Tepitos and have an unhealthy obsession with their Micheladas Especiales. My obsession with their Tacos is very healthy though.
