Mayorca: A Metro-Accessible Outlet Mall in Sabaneta

There’s no doubt about it, Colombian’s love to shop, and with so many shopping malls in Medellín, how do you pick the right one?

If you’re looking for the biggest brands at the smallest prices, the Mayorca outlet mall fits the bill and has everything you need at a fraction of the price tag. And by big, I’m not just talking about big brands either…

Gorditas Sexy caters for the more curvaceous woman, and with sexy in the name, it proves that curves are a hit for Colombian fashion.

They even enhance their derriere and there’s a fab underwear shop called Mujer Latina with everything ladies need including a Wonderbra for your rear so you can wear those skinny jeans with confidence.

It’s not just restricted to the chicas either. There’s Big John for the men with up to 70 percent off mens clothing. For the body conscious chicos, there’s an outlet shop for Speedos so you can get an all over tan before purchasing a suit for the office at Luber with a generous discount of 50 percent.

So what other types of shops can find here?

Anything from Levis, Naf Naf and Skechers to the lesser known brands. Unlike Palacio Nacional, Mayorca Mall appears to cater for a wider range of age groups with its main focus on discounted clothes and shoes.

There are over 250 shops here and some with the coolest of names such as Miss Love and Naughty & Blue with cute white skirts and denim waistcoats for the ladies.

Prices seem to start from as little as 9,900 pesos ($5.50) for anything at Totto Outlet to 260,000 ($138) for a pair of trainers.

You can also pick up a pair of sunglasses on the mobile stands of the mall.

There’s a bit of an England theme here too and walking around the shops reminded me of home with stores such as Oxford, selling mens shirts, t-shirts and jeans, and Croydon – a funky shoe shop, as well as bags donned in London flags at a shop called Importados where you can also pick up a nice dart-board or a ‘keep calm and…’ image for your wall.

At first it only seems as though there are only two walkways of shops but head down into what looks like the car park, to even more shops and to my favorite in the mall: Colombia Exotica, where you can pick up traditional Colombian merchandise including mini-versions of the Botero figures depicting the curvaceous of people, (the actual Fernando Botero statues ones can be found near Estación Parque Berrío).

If you’re lucky you may even get a sample of coffee wine, an authentic product of Colombia with an amazing taste. My favorite tipple so far!

There’s not just shopping here either. This shopping mall has the widest choice of cuisine on the first floor and there’s always Doger Grill for those who prefer a proper restaurant experience (i.e. no plastic chairs) to that of a food court.

And finally, above the shops, a seven screen cinema shows the latest releases or there’s the casino to have a flutter with all the money you saved on your big brands shopping…bonus!

Located in Sabaneta, the Mayorca mall is easily accessible via pedestrian bridge from the Itagüí metro station.
