Please RSVP for the Medellín Living April Meetup
This meetup is a great way to network and meet others with common interests and hobbies. It also gives long-time Medellín residents a chance to share their knowledge and help out those who are new to the city. Please try to welcome the newcomers and introduce them to your friends!
You’ll also have a chance to meet some of the Medellín Living writers. Maybe you can suggest an idea for a story you would like to see them write for Medellín Living. Also, don’t forget to invite your friends and like and share the event on Facebook!
If you plan to attend, please RSVP so we know how many people to expect. You can RSVP on Facebook here, or below in the comments if you are not on Facebook.
About Smash Avocaderia Restaurant and Bar
Since opening late last year, Smash Avocaderia has been giving Medellin residents another healthy dining option. With a dizzying array of avocado-based dishes–from avocado pancakes to avocado smoothies–avocado lovers won’t believe how many ways their favorite vegetable can be prepared!
Smash Avocaderia is one of nine restaurants (and a bar) that make up the Mercado del Parque. Located next to the Primer Parque de Laureles (First Laureles Park), the selection of restaurants includes Antonella’s Pizza, Sagrial Sushi, Kebab House, El Guero (Mexican food), Revoltijo (Arepas), BBQ Market, Criollo, and La Suzette crepes. The restaurants have a shared seating area (like a food court) that includes an outdoor patio.
The Mercado del Parque also includes the Morena Bar, which offers a wide variety of drink options. They have a good selection of beers, including Heineken, Corona, and Miller. The domestic cerveza selection includes Tres Cordilleras, Club Colombia, and Aguila.
Morena Bar’s cocktail selection includes four kinds of Mojitos, two margaritas, a strawberry daiquiri, and a piña colada. Included in the liquor selection are nine rums, such as Havana Club and Ron Medellin; three tequilas; three gins; and five whiskies, including Johnnie Walker Black Label.
For those who like to share, Morena Bar also offers a few drinks by the jarra (pitcher), such as a Mojito pitcher and two types of sangria.
In the non-alcohol department, they have natural juices, four types of lemonade, soft drinks, and Red Bull.
The Smash Avocaderia menu includes avocado-based dishes for any appetite. For breakfast, they offer choices like avocado pancakes and an avocado smoothie bowl. Later in the day, diners might choose from a variety of healthy salads and bowls which include a wide variety of ingredients, such as fruit and nuts.
Smash also offers six different tostadas, including an Italian one and one with salmon. Those with a bigger appetite can choose from one of three wraps or the Avo Veggie Burger.
When it comes time for dessert, the star ingredient isn’t left out. The shakes include avocado and there’s even an avo-lime cheesecake!
Our Medellín Living Meetups
In response to popular demand, Medellín Living restarted its meetups in January of 2017 after a two-year hiatus. The new Medellin Living meetups have been a huge success, growing steadily from one month to the next. We’ve been averaging 50-70 attendees at the last few meetups.
For the moment, we’re alternating the meetups between Poblado and Laureles, which are two of the most popular neighborhoods for expats living in Medellín.
Our May meetup is planned for Poblado. Details will be posted on this site about one week before each meetup.
Note: there isn’t any fee required to attend Medellín Living meetups, and no membership is required.
We have two additional ways for our readers to keep up with Medellín Living events. You can follow us on our Medellin Living Events & Activities Facebook group or via our Medellin Living group on Meetup.com.
