Medellin Events: January 2014

The colorful La Parranda de Rumber is a fun place for a night out.

In addition to sending out these updates on the 1st of every month, we’ve also created an Events Calendar. Know of a cool event going on that’s not already listed? Add it yourself by filling out this form. It’s completely free! Dave will be moderating new submissions to make sure they’re legit.

Now comes the calm.

Everyone partied for a month in December, especially Atletico Nacional fans because their team did something great: win all three major Colombian tournaments in the same calendar year.

January will be a time to relax and recover. But if you’re looking for something to do, we have some suggestions.

Have fun!

Concerts/Live Music

Son Havana

See the club’s Facebook page and website to find out what bands are playing every Thursday and Saturday.

Una Vida de Heroe R.Strauss

This orchestra might be the perfect type of music after all the festivities last month.

Holidays

Epiphany

Jan. 6

Known as a Christian feast day, this celebration of symbolism of God the Son as a human being is more likely a day for barbecues in Medellin.

The Alaska roll, one of my favorites.

Reader Meetup

Jan. 9

This night will have it all, hence the title: Dinner, Dessert, Dancing.

We’ll start at Sushi House, where a free appetizer and 10% discount on all food awaits. Then dessert at Java Bean Cafe follows, where every four people will get a free sample to share. The night will end at La Parranda de Rumber, where drinks will be 20% off.

RSVP through Facebook

Sports

Jan. 26

Atletico Nacional begins the defense of its Liga Postobon titles against its rival, Independiente Medellin.

You can buy tickets at Estadio Atanasio Girardot.

Theater

Enhumorados La Gorda Fabiola y Polilla

For some laughs, Colombian style, this might be your event.
