Medellin Events: December 2013

In addition to sending out these updates on the 1st of every month, we’ve also created anEvents Calendar. Know of a cool event going on that’s not already listed? Add it yourself by filling out this form. It’s completely free! Dave will be moderating new submissions to make sure they’re legit.

This post was updated on Dec. 22.

Welcome to the best month in Medellin. I won’t waste your time with more small talk. On to the events..

Concerts/Live Music

Son Havana

See the club’s Facebook page and website to find out what bands are playing every Thursday and Saturday.

La Tripleta Sabanera

Dec. 14

If you like vallenato, come see the group perform live at Palmahia.

Festivals

Festival de las Luces

Dec. 1 to 8

This is the first year of the event, and it starts with the turning on of the Alumbrado Navideno along the Rio Medellin, which will remain there until early January as the paisas celebrate their biggest holiday month.

Activities at the festival will include:

More traditional grub awaits on Christmas Day at the Shamrock.

Holidays

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Dec. 8

It’s pretty obvious what the holiday is about. This year it falls on a Sunday so the churches might be more full than usual. Maybe not, though. Colombia is not nearly as religious as some other Latin countries.

Christmas

Dec. 23

Hey expats and any Colombians who want to experience American culture…come in the early afternoon to the Shamrock for a traditional holiday meal, similar to what was done on Thanksgiving. It is sure to be a lot of fun.

Dec. 25

If you’re still looking for something to do on Navidad, consider going with the folks at Arcadia Hostel for its Christmas Night: Colombia Style event.

New Year’s Eve

Dec. 31

Check the Facebook pages for all the bars and clubs in the city. Each one will have something going on, I would think.

Wanna try some? Come to the Medellin Living event on Tuesday at Ole Ole Gastrobar.

Reader Meetup

8 p.m., Dec. 3, at Ole Ole Gastrobar

Join Dave, Ryan, and other Medellin Living readers and friends for tapas and drinks.

This restaurant and its young Spanish chef are serving up some of the tastiest tapas in the city.

Season is almost over. Go see if Atletico Nacional can make history with its third title of the year.

Sports

Dec. 1, 5 and 8

Atletico Nacional continues its quest to win this year’s second Liga Postobon title after capturing the first one in July and earning the Copa Postobon title in November.

Only one team has ever won all three titles in one year: Nacional, in 2007.
