At midnight on September 25, 2010, I rang in my 34th birthday in Medellin, dancing in a near-empty crossover club in Bello, the town just north of Medellin (but still connected via the metro line).
I didn’t mind the lack of people, as I was having a great time dancing with Milena for the first time.
After closing out the club around 2:30 AM, we said goodnight, and I caught a taxi back to Poblado.
The next afternoon, I joined Milena and her brother for a visit to a library in a poorer neighborhood of Medellin.
She surprised me with a chocolate birthday cake, which we enjoyed atop the library’s roof, with clear views of downtown (centro).

That night, I met up with Troy for a BBQ and party happening at The Art House.
And again, I was surprised with a birthday cake!
This one was a traditional Colombian one with some form of alcohol, fruit, and a marshmallow frosting.
I believe it was made at Ana’s aunt’s bakery, and it was possibly the prettiest birthday cake I’ve ever received, featuring both the Colombian and Medellin flags, with my name in gold script.
The cake consumed, along with a few beers, signaled it was time to head for a bar in Parque Lleras.
I picked Le Pub de Octavia, and Troy and Ana joined me, along with a new friend, Stephanie.
All in all, it turned out to be a wonderful weekend.

That's awesome, the cake looks great (marshmellow frosting? it doesn't sound bad per se, just I've never heard of that before, is that a uniquely Colombian thing?), and happy birthday!
