In my life, very, very few things can hold a candle to beer. The beer in Medellin is not exceptional; not even the local micro-brew. The cheap beers however are extremely better than the cheap beers in the United States, like Budweiser or Coors.
Lately, I’ve found something that could be replacing my beer fetish while I’m in Medellin. It’s called Pony Malta. I think it tastes like candied yams. The first time I gave it a try I wasn’t sure what to think, but now I’m hooked. It is a malt, so it has some similarities to beer. It goes well with the occasional cigarette, and if bought in the 1.5 liter bottle it definitely fits my budget better than the beer I would be having every night.

There is no way it is better than beer! I tried it just once, and couldn't appreciate it like Holly.
I preferred the Colombiana soda - the pink one. :)
As a lover of stouts myself I could totally see how Pony Malta would be a yummy treat for a first timer. Luckily I've always been able to find Pony malta in NYC. I can't wait to one day have it in Medellin! Awesome Blog/site.. Cheers!
