Thursdays at El Blue

El Blue is one of the most popular tourist spots in Medellin.  So, after about four months of being here, I finally hit it up. Granted it wasn’t a normal night.  Instead it was the normal Thursday event where the local radio station brings in a band and gives away free entrance to callers.  On the day I decided to go, my favorite local band Artefacto was playing.

Thanks to my favorite Colombian Rockstar (and perpetual crush) Felipe, I was able to get a couple tickets without the hassle of calling.  My friend and I got there a little early, but not early enough to get a great seat.  We ended up about halfway in the club directly in front of the door.  Which worked out well, because when Felipe strolled in with the rest  of the band about an hour after the show was supposed to start, I was in the perfect position to get the customary hello kiss. I think then everyone else stopped wondering what a couple of gringos were doing at a local show.

I had a shot of really nice whiskey there, and then worked on quite a few Pilsens.  The two for one special made the 5,000 COP beer a lot easier to stomach.  After the show, El Blue opened it’s doors for a normal night, and the dancing began.  Thursdays at Blue are cool, but I think I’ll stick to finding new places in some lesser known parts of the city.
