Gringo Conference in Parque Lleras

Last Wednesday, I met up with Jim, an American wrapping up a one year trip around the world, for lunch at a Cuban restaurant in Parque Lleras.  It was 6 months ago that we first met on a Nile River cruise in Egypt, so we had a lot to catch up on.  Mainly, he relayed experiences and insights from his last few months on the South American circuit – Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, before reaching Colombia.  I really enjoy meeting people who have traveled as much as me, specifically on a RTW trip, because I feel no sense of self-consciousness when it comes to discussing the countries I’ve visited.  And of course, we talked about how our trips altered who we are, and how we look forward to going back to the USA changed men.

In the evening, I met up with Roosh from Washington, DC, and Jim once again, at my favorite meeting spot – the Juan Valdez Cafe in Parque Lleras.  From there, we walked over to Octava and had a drink.  Inevitably, the topic of travel in South American countries came up, though unlike the other two guys, I haven’t been anywhere beyond Colombia.

The plan was to then hit up B-Lounge, which is suppose to be the happening place on Wednesdays (ladies night).  Unfortunately, the bouncer had a disliking for groups of gringo guys, and therefore denied us entry.  Roosh had a friend inside, and was more dedicated to the mission.  Jim and I headed back to the park and had a few beers outside, before calling it a night.  The next day, Roosh reported that the lounge was OK, but there were too many guys, and he probably wouldn’t head back without a girl in tow (to ease entry).  As for Jim and I, we’re happy to blacklist any place that treats us in that manner (though I get their point…keep the ratio of men to women under control).

Jim stayed in Medellin a week, while it sounds like Roosh is here for a few months.
